Evangelical School Development Incorporation Ltd.
History
The Evangelical School Development Incorporation Limited (hereinafter referred to as “ESDI”) is an evangelical Christian school-sponsoring body founded in 1964 for the purpose of operating schools that impart genuine gospel truths and provide high-quality education. All ESDI schools are soundly organised administratively and attain high academic standards. Their teams of Christian teachers are committed to: dedicating themselves to the education ministry, teaching their students wholeheartedly, spreading the gospel enthusiastically, cultivating students’ spiritual life conscientiously, and nurturing their growth patiently, thus helping young people understand true Christian faith, form upright moral characters, and live an abundant life.
The first ESDI secondary school, Carmel English Secondary School on Carmel Village Street, Ho Man Tin, now named Carmel Secondary School on Chung Hau Street, Ho Man Tin, commemorates the manifestation of the glory of God’s might on Mount Carmel when His prophet Elijah vanquished the false prophets who worshipped lewd idols in Old Testament times. In the hope that all its schools will proclaim biblical truths, glorify God and benefit mankind, ESDI named them after "Carmel". To date, ESDI has sponsored six secondary schools and two primary schools, namely, in chronological order, Carmel Secondary School, Carmel Pak U Secondary School, Carmel Leung Sing Tak School, Carmel Alison Lam Foundation Secondary School, Carmel Bunnan Tong Memorial Secondary School, Carmel Alison Lam Primary School, Carmel Divine Grace Secondary School and Carmel Holy Word Secondary School. By the mercies of God, they all provide holistic Christian education and nurture their students to live the spirit of their shared school motto:
Self-discipline through the Understanding of the Word
Service to Mankind through Faithfulness to the Lord
Mission
Provide holistic education based on biblical truths, thereby letting students receive all-round and high-quality upbringing in the moral, intellectual, physical, social, aesthetic and spiritual aspects, so that their learning abilities can be enhanced, their potentials identified and realised, and they can know the true God, understand the Word of truth, build good character, and cultivate a spirit of self-discipline, thus growing up in faith, hope and love, and, as adults, can conduct themselves well, care about their country and community, glorify God and benefit mankind.
