The Hong Kong Free Methodist Church

The Free Methodist Church (FMC) is one of the worldwide Christian denominations with congregations in various countries. The Hong Kong Free Methodist Church (HKFMC) has been rooted in Hong Kong since 1951 when a church, a Bible school and a writing center were founded by the missionary pastor Rev. I.S.W. Riding in Sai Ying Pun.

Nowadays, HKFMC’s ministries include establishing churches (there are currently fifteen churches), forming Hong Kong Free Methodist Mission to promote missionary work and to send missionaries to foreign lands, as well as providing social services for people of different age groups in various regions of Hong Kong via service centers under the social service unit established. For the ministry in education, HKFMC has founded and co-founded kindergarten, primary and secondary schools to serve students.

In the early 1990s, HKFMC received a vision and mission to establish churches in Cambodia (the Free Methodist Church in Cambodia is now self-sufficient and welcomes people to join its gatherings). It has engaged in various community services to assist those in need in Cambodia, and in 2008, it collaborated with the Evangelical School Development Incorporation Limited and Hong Kong Evangelical Church to establish the Cambodia Kurmul International School.

Shine School Introduction

1.History

The Hong Kong Free Methodist Church (HKFMC) owns a mission center in Cambodia starting from 1994. We have built a student center, a missionary lodge, a playground, and an international school on the site. The Kurmul International School(KIS) is operated by the International Education Association Limited. (IEAL). The IEAL is a united organization formed by HKFMC, Evangelical School Development Incorporation, & Hong Kong Evangelical Church respectively. KIS starts service in 2011. We plan to expand the school to cover all primary and secondary grades. There is still vacant space in the mission center. HKFMC is planning to operate a kindergarten on it.

2.Our Vision

We would like to expand the educational service to the people of Cambodia. We believe that people in Cambodia need good education. We have strong conviction that our Christian model of education is of great help to them. Apart from the primary and secondary education need, the need of pre-school population is even greater. We convince that the influence is greater if the students can receive Christian education in an earlier stage. Having a kindergarten near the KIS would create a “through-train” effect. A 15-year education can provide a strong Christian value and belief to the students equipping them to face the future and to be a good citizen.

3.Our Mission

Provide a joyful, relaxed, and creative environment for children aged 3 to 6 years, establishing a balanced development in the six aspects of morality, intelligence, physical ability, social skills, aesthetics, and spirituality.
